FAQ

1. Do I need to make an appointment or can I just stop by?
Please call ahead (215) 844-1643 and set up an appointment.
Someone will be available to meet you and answer any questions you may have.

2. Can a VPC conservator give me a cost estimate while I wait?
Typically, a firm estimate and condition assessment can be provided in about two weeks. The initial meeting however, provides a brief assessment of the viability of treatment and a ballpark estimate of the cost of treatment.

3. How much does conservation treatment cost?
Treatments are estimated based on the hours deemed necessary to treat the work at $70/hr (in house). Site visits are billed at $150/hr.

4. If I don’t live in Philadelphia, can VPC give me a cost estimate over the phone? Or can I email an image of my painting?
We will be happy to speak with you about treatment possibilities for your painting. However, firm estimates can be given only after a visual examination of a painting. No treatment will be undertaken without an authorized contract.

5. Can I make payments for the conservation treatment over time?
Full payment is due on receipt of the work or notice, unless other arrangements are made in advance.

6. If I decide not to continue with treatment on my painting, can I store it at VPC?
VPC is not a storage facility. We only store paintings that are in the studio for examination and/or treatment. Any painting left for a period exceeding one month after completion of the treatment will have monthly storage charges added to the final cost.

7. Does VPC pay for shipping charges?
Shipping charges, insurance costs, stretchers, crates/shipping boxes and costs for other extraordinary materials are in addition to conservation costs.

8. Can VPC assess the value of my painting?
VPC does not appraise or authenticate.

9. What other services does VPC provide?
Currently we provide collection surveys and treat paintings in house and in some cases provide on-site examinations and minor treatments. For on-site projects, time is billed for preparation, travel, accommodations, time on-site and reports and administration.
