General Information

Standards:

Vision Painting Conservation (VPC) provides professional art conservation and upholds the ethical standards set forth by the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC). All work is carefully examined before being treated. Treatments are carried out using museum-standard materials and methods and all treatments are fully documented with photographs and written reports before and after treatment.

Philosophy:

Conservators are individuals with extensive training that has prepared them to responsibly care for cultural holdings. It is understood that an object’s significance may be artistic, historical, scientific, religious, or social, and that its treatment must take these qualities into consideration.

To be worthy of this trust requires a high sense of moral responsibility to the cultural property, to its owners and/or custodians, to the conservation profession, and to society as a whole without reserve or personal prejudice. Because of this it is understood that treatment should only be recommended or undertaken when judged suitable to the preservation of the aesthetic, conceptual, and physical characteristics of the cultural property. When nonintervention best serves to promote the preservation of the object, it may sometimes be appropriate to recommend that no treatment be performed.
